Last June, local swimmer Neil Agius not only attempted a great feat but also broke a record when he completed his 100km Sicily to Malta crossing. And now, he’s been nominated for an award!

A little bit about the challenge

Neil kicked off his 33-hour-long swim challenge at 5.15am from Pozzallo in what was part of an anti-pollution campaign. Not only did he complete the entire thing, but the 2004 Olympian also broke an existing record clocking in at 28 hours and 17 minutes. #Legend

The award

The World Open Water Swimming Association (WOWSA) announced the Performance of the Year Nominees, which includes 12 athletes who completed some kind of open water swim around the world. Malta’s Neil is among them, currently ranking in second place with 429 votes (at the time of writing) following Mayank Vaid who completed an insane HK360Xtreme Challenge in Hong Kong. Vaid currently has 496 votes.
